Andover Natives In MLB Draft
Andover High and St. John's Prep grads in the MLB draft this week.
Two Andover natives may be drafted into Major League Baseball this week.
Andover High graduate and The College of William & Mary student John Farrell, 21, and St. John's Prep graduate and Vanderbilt student Michael Yastrzemski, 20, are both on the list as possible draft picks.
Yastrzemski, son of Mike and Anne-Marie Yastrzemski, is the grandson of Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski.
Michael's father was a third-round draft pick by the Atlanta Braves in 1984 and played for the White Sox at the Triple-A level.
The Red Sox drafted Mike Yastrzemski in the 36th round in 2009, but he chose to go to college.
John Farrell is a pitcher from The College of William & Mary. In 2010 he was a primary reliever for his team as he appeared in 20 games out of the pen.
At the Andover High, he was named the best pitcher in the conference in 2009. He was also named to the All-Scholastic team.
Farrell is the son of John and Laurie Farrell.
