Andover Teacher Proposes Stalling Accreditation for Contract

An Andover High School teacher sent around emails to Andover teacher union members about "stalling" the school's accreditation as a negotiation tactic for the contract.

An English teacher at Andover High was reported to have sent an email asking dozens of other union members to help "stall" the school's accrediation process as a way to give them the upper hand in contract negotiations, according to an article in the Eagle Tribune.

The Andover teachers' union has been in contract negotiations with the school committee since the beginning of the summer in 2010, with the contract. The two parties are currently in the "fact-finding" stage with the state.

The email was sent ot 60 union members' personal email accounts and the Andover Education Association spoke"fact-finding" stage with the statesman said the action does not reflect the stance of the union.

Thirteen grades of kids (K-12) are in Andover public schools, but it sure feels like only four grades of teachers are controlling the teachers' union.

I'm shocked that Andover elementary school teachers - who teach 90% of every school day - are supporting high school teachers in their fight to maintain only 50% of their time in front of a class.

I'm all for union solidarity, but it works best when leaders are actually representing views from the entire union. Could that possibly be the case in Andover?

So true! What a horrid thing Jen Meagher is dong in the way she's expressing herself...threatening to use her few dozen friends to derail the school accreditation...jeopardizing the college future for our high school students, and eroding property values in town. Shame on you Jen Meager!!! All so you can protect your workload of 90 days/year teaching two 84 minute classes (under 3 hours per day teaching), and 90 days per year having to work THREE classes (under 4 1/2 hrs per day teaching). WHAT is the motivation for this teacher to attempt to harm our schools more...EXTREME laziness or something else?

If Jen Meagher worked in the private sector, her butt would have been fired long ago for failing to be a team player and intentionally creating a hostile work environment. Honestly, I can't believe an entire town is being held hostage for the interests of 40 high school teachers. Wake up, Jen Meagher! Andover parents are getting PISSED, and we will NOT put up with this BS.
