Carina and Co. Reinvents Itself
The recent closing of many businesses in Andover has prompted one store to make changes to keep its clients and bottom line a lot healthier.
Carina and Co., 3 Barnard Street, is getting a makeover in order to stay in business as the staggering economy lingers. The changes includes a new name, "Carina's Health and Wellness," to reflect the store's renewed direction.
Owner Michelle Corey said that jewelry and accessories are not enough to support the business and she is expanding their make up lines, as well as adding anti-aging treatments, nutritional consulting and biofeedback therapy.
Corey, along with her daughter Nicole Allard, has owned the business for the past 6 years. The previous owner of Beauty Solutions, Corey is a licensed cosmetologist and holds certifications in anti-aging, image and nutraceutical consulting, and biofeedback therapy. Allard who has a paralegal background recently left the store to teach citizenship classes for a non profit organization.
Corey has over 20 years of wellness and energy work and is now incorporating it as part of the store.
Plans to begin a treatment room in the back of the store will begin the last week of April and should be ready May 1, according to Corey. "We will be closed during the construction," she said.
The room will allow Corey to consult with clients on skincare, makeup and anti-aging treatments. She has been a consultant for post operative makeup at plastic surgeon's offices for a number of years.
"I carry all chemical free makeup lines that are physician quality," she explained. Some of these include Jane Iredale, Eccobelle and a private label. "I also plan to add a Men's line," she said.
Corey said this will fill some of the void left by the closing of Beauty and Main.
The store will still continue to sell jewelry, hair accessories, evening bags and wraps, and provide wedding day make-up services. "We are the only store that carries the widest selection of evening bags and hair accessories,"she said.
Corey will bring her Quantum Biofeedback practice to the store. A certified technician, she has been doing this for the past two years for clients, many of who have various conditions.
She said its purpose is to reduce stress. By balancing the body with electromagnetic frequencies, it can help a variety of conditions such as allergies, migraine headaches, depression, anxiety, pain management, memory issues, injuries, digestion, nutrition, lack of energy, and more.
"Once you de-stress, the body begins to heal itself," she explained. The cost of the initial consultation is $125 and there are packages for multiple treatments.
