Cronin Takes Third at USA Junior Championships

The Andover High graduate traveled to Eugene, Oregon and came home with a bronze in the high jump competition.

Moira Cronin traveled all the way out to Eugene, Oregon for the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships and made sure that she did not come home empty handed.

The Andover High graduate earned a bronze medal in the Junior Championship high jump competition on Saturday. She was only three and a half inches away from earning herself a gold medal.

Cronin just missed out on earning the right to represent her country in the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.

The Junior Championships serve as a selection meet for the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships which will be held in Miramar, Florida in late July.

The top two finishers in each event at Saturday’s competition were invited to compete for Team USA.

Cronin cleared 5-8½ for the third place finish. She finished behind Rachel Proteu of the Willamette Striders Track Club who earned second place for clearing 5-10¾ and Shanay Briscoe of Texas who earned first place for clearing 6-2.

The USA Junior Championships capped off a phenomenal senior season for Cronin.

Earlier this month, at the 66th New England Interscholastic Track and Field Outdoor Championships Meet. She cleared 5-9 in that meet to take home the gold.

At All –States this year, Cronin also took first place in the high jump competition. She cleared 5-8 in that meet.

Cronin will be attending the University of Virginia this fall.
