Fatal Accident Raises Questions About Rt. 125 Safety
Barbara L'Italian calling for action after fatal accident.
In the wake of a fatal accident last Friday that killed an elderly couple, neighbors and politicians are calling for action on the dangerous stretch of road.
According to an article in the Eagle Tribune, former state Rep. Barbara L’Italien, who lives a half mile from Route 125 on Harper Circle was involved in a project to install traffic lights on the bypass in 2006. L'Italien is calling for the state’s Department of Transportation to take another look at the stretch of road after the improvements were completed in 2008.
The article notes at one time, there was a push to have five intersections include full traffic lights, but only three ended up being approved. Two of the intersections — Wildwood Road and Prospect Street — received flashing lights only.
“They were trying to balance the local needs against the Route 125 commuter traffic flow,” L’Italien told the ET. “But I think the Department of Transportation needs to revisit the issue to see if Wildwood and Prospect streets need solid traffic lights.”
