Finegold, Adams Talk About Taxes, Healthcare at Debate
The candidates for the Second Essex and Middlesex state senate seat, incumbent Sen. Barry Finegold and State Rep. Paul Adams, sparred over a variety of issues at Memorial Hall Library Wednesday.
State Rep. Paul Adams (R-Andover) and State Sen. Barry Finegold (D-Andover) debated in front of a crowd of roughly 120 at Memorial Hall Library Wednesday evening, according to an article in the Lowell Sun.
Adams talked about changing a trend in state government by bringing more Republicans into the legislature and ending the "tax and spend" attitude of the Democratic majority.
Finegold criticized Adams for not voting for a bill which lowered the cost of healthcare, a bill that Adams said would only increase taxes.
While the two also disagreed over the ways to help small businesses, the two agreed on issues such as providing assistance for returning war veterans and training for the unemployed.
