Fire Destroys Two Tractor Trailers at Market Basket Warehouse

Andover and Wilmington Fire crews responded to a tractor trailer fire on Ballardvale Street at the Market Basket warehouse this past Tuesday.

Andover fire officials are still investigating the cause of a fire that started underneath one tractor trailer at the Market Basket warehouse on Ballardvale Street and spread to a second tractor trailer.

Both had drivers were in the sleeper units in the back of the cabs but, luckily, someone spotted the fire and alerted both drivers before the fire fully involved the trucks.

According to Fire Chief Michael Mansfield, the call came in around 1:57 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, with Andover and Wilmington sending an engine. When it was realized that the fire spread to a second tractor-trailer, a second fire engine was called from Andover.

The trailers' contents, one just beef and one dairy products, were also destroyed in the fire.

Mansfield estimates that the fire represents over a $1 million total loss including the trucks and contents. The trucks were owned by two different shipping companies, one from Utah and other Kansas.

Andover and Wilmington firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to any structures or destorying any other property. Nobody was harmed in the incident.

The fire is under investigation by the Andover Fire Department.
