Firefighters Battle Truck Fire on I-93 Off Ramp
Andover firefighters extinguished a truck fire Friday afternoon. Nobody was injured in the blaze.
A fuel leak in a pick-up truck quickly escalated into a fully-involved truck fire while the vehicle was heading to Interstate 93 northbound from Interstate 495 northbound.
Deputy Chief James Dolan said the fire department first arrived on scene around 11:45 a.m. Friday morning.
Dolan said the pick-up truck, towing a trailer, was occupied by two men when the truck caught fire from a fuel leak in the diesel truck's plastic gas tank.
Firefighters closed down the ramp for 45 minutes in order to extinguish the fire and contain the spilled diesel fuel. Using dikes, the fire staff was able to prevent the fuel from leaking into drainage basins and contaminating the groundwater.
Dolan said they were able to deal with incident without any assistance from other communities.
The federal Environmental Protection Agency also responded to help clean up the diesel fuel leak.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident and both passengers were not injured.
