Five Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-495
State Police responded to an accident involving five different vehicles, including a tractor trailer, on Interstate 495 this morning.
State Police, Andover Police and Fire and state highway crews all assisted in a five-vehicle accident, which included a tractor trailer, on Interstate 495 this morning at roughly 6 a.m.
State Police said that the tractor trailer was traveling southbound when they believe it hit a work van, ejecting the driver from the van onto the roadway. The tractor trailer then ran over the van driver and came to rest over his legs.
Andover Fire crews rescued the man and he was sent to Lawrence General Hospital with serious injuries.
The accident caused a chain reaction that made three other passenger cars crash in addition to the tractor trailer and van. A total of five people were transported to the hospital.
The state highway department helped clean up debris on the roadway while it was closed for approximately an hour and a half. All traffic was rerouted onto Route 28.
The cause the accident is still under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section
