Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 18

Today the parking ban is lifted....and it should continue to be warm.

Here are five things you need to know today:

Parking Ban is OVER: Finally, the snow parking ban is over. According to one reader, it has actually been over for two days. Nonetheless, you can now park your car on the streets of Andover without worrying that the police will take it. Sounds good to me. Get the latest on parking bans on the Andover PD website.

There’s Always Something to Talk About: It was this day in 1841 that the US Senate began its first continuous filibuster that lasted until March 11. It began over an objection to Senate printers. The longest filibuster to date was done by then-South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond when opposing legislation that would give states control over oil leases. This fun fact was provided by On-This-Day.com.

Story Time at the Book Store: The Andover Bookstore is hosting Susan Leone to provide an imaginative storytelling experience for area children. The event starts at 10 a.m. More information can be found here.

Gas Prices: Gas at the Lukoil at Route 125 and Salem Road has dropped dramatically and is now at the lowest price. Check it out below. Here are some of the lowest and most current unleaded gas prices in Andover according to autos.msn.com: Lukoil, Route 125 and Salem Street - $3.11/gallon. Gulf, 65 Main Street$3.12/gallon. Sunoco 205 North Main Street – $3.15/gallon.

Weather: There should be a high temperature of around 50 degrees today, however, rain and fog is expected in the morning, according to the National Weather Service. Friday night should have a low temperature around 31 degrees and mostly clear skies.
