Andover Hair Removal Center, now located at 13 Main Street, 2nd floor, relocated from Andover Village.

Owner Rachel Peterson decided to move when her lease was up, and the new owners wanted to convert her space into an apartment. Given other options in Andover Village, Peterson decided the location on Main Street better suited her business.

Peterson, a registered Electrologist has practiced since 1998 when she worked with Marsha Rubin who at that time owned the business. Six and a half years later, Peterson took it over.

“It’s what I love to do,” she said. 

Peterson also has an Esthetician license, which she said gives her a better understanding in helping clients feel good about how they look.  She is also a licensed instructor in the field, and likes enlightening clients as well as students about the science behind the process.

“Electrolysis is the only permanent option for removal of hair, unless there is a medical condition," she explained. There are three modalities which all destroy the follicle and not just the hair as in tweezing or waxing. She only uses pre-sterilized disposable probes.

Peterson offers a free consultation during which she works with a client to create a program that fits their needs and schedule. She said, “We all get self-conscious about unwanted hair, and we can do something about it because electrolysis works in all areas.”

She pointed out that the treatment length will vary from client to client. If a person's hair has never had been tweezed, threaded or waxed, the treatment of “virgin” hair will be faster.  As far as pain, she said, everyone is different, but will feel something. She will also use lidocaine cream to numb the affected areas.

Peterson likes to make her clients feel comfortable during the procedure.  She plays peaceful background instrumental music. She also painted the walls a soft soothing color when she moved in.

But it is her clients' testimonials and letters, stating how electrolysis changed their lives, which validates what she does.

“I love helping people, and it is gratifying to see the glee in an client’s eye when they see the hair growth slowing down.  It is my intrinsic reward, and it is worth a million dollars,” she explained.
