Sports and the Holidays

This is the Week in Review for the week of Dec. 19 to Dec. 26.

This past week in Andover was slow but understandably. The kids were off from school starting Thursday and many were gearing up for the Saturday Christmas this year.

This week was busy in sports, however. The varsity boys basketball team has kept their lead after beating Methuen on Thursday. The varsity girls basketball team also took down the competition during a game this week..

Girls varsity ice hockey ended up tying Westford Academy and the varsity boys wrestling team came in 9th place at the Sons of Italy wrestling tournament.

Town officials recently spoke with representatives from Stop and Shop and the grocery store chain announced that they will be opening up a store in the spring.

It was also discovered this week that the Securities Exchange Commission has made accusations of misconduct against the town attorney for Andover. The alleged misconduct was done privately and town officials say that this is a private matter for Thomas Urbelis, who they say continues to provide great work for the town.

This week also saw some of that first snowfall of the season as the region gears up for another storm later today. Roads were slippery and there were many small motor vehicle accidents in Andover.

AndoverPatch featured a number of businesses to hit for holiday stuff, including Moor and Mountain, the Addison Museum Gift Shop and Les Fleurs.
