What's New at Andover Schools This Year

The Superintendent of Schools Marinel McGrath has a number of initiatives and goals beginning this year.

The classes began today and there are many new and exciting programs at all levels that will be starting this year as well as many existing programs. 

Superintendent of School Marinel McGrath has released a number of new initiatives that will be implemented at various grade levels. One program involves a pilot study of academic use of the iPad. McGrath will be using several in selected classrooms from elementary to high school. 

Here are several new goals provided by the Andover Public Schools to help develop and improve the entire school system:

  • Implement the new phonics/word study program, called Fundations, in grades kindergarten through third grade. 
  • Begin a one-on-one pilot program using iPads in selected elementary, middle and high school classrooms. 
  • Begin program reviews in mathematics, foreign language and fine/performing arts. 
  • Begin construction of the new Bancroft School.
  • Continue collaboration with the Town of Andover on long-range planning and the budget process.
  • Complete the High School's NEASC Self-Study Process in preparation for the October 2012 10-year accreditation visit.
  • Extend the infusion of 21st Century Skill across the curriculum 
  • Approve and implement the 2011-2014 Strategic Plan
