Shawsheen River Watershed Association is celebrating the Third Annual Summer Solstice Celebration on Friday. June 21st, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM at the Pomps Pond Recreation Area, Abbot Road in Andover. The event is open to all and costs nothing. Some of the activities include: boating and gear for paddling around the pond, a short presentation on the astronomy, history, and cultural significance of the solstice and musicians from local band JOE'S GARAGE will be on hand to entertain. The night also includes lawn games and a campfire, so bring your own supplies for S'Mores. Folks are encouraged to bring their own snacks and beverages, but no alcoholic beverages allowed. Memorial Hall Library's new makerspace, called the Beehive, begins this summer.
This summer, Memorial Hall Library is creating a Makerspace, which in a nut shell is a "collaborative learning environments where people come together to share materials and learn new skills." Called the Beehive for Community Creativity and Gathering, this "Makerspace" will feature several events at the library each month for adults to learn, create, and interact. Find a new way to keep busy in The Beehive! The Beehive will host a variety of drop-in activities focused on art, writing, crafts, games, demonstrations, and discussions of all kinds. The parade runs from Elm Square down Main to Punchard Avenue and then ends at the Park.
Andover's annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday morning, at the intersection of Elm Street and Florence Street. Many civic, patriotic and fraternal organizations march in the annual town event. Any others not already participating that wish to march should contact the Veterans’ Services Office at (978) 623-8218. There will be a collation at the Doherty Middle School cafeteria at 11:30 A.M. for all parade participants. As per custom, no political activity can be accommodated in and during the parade. The route leads from the intersection of Elm and Florence Streets to Main Street, to Punchard Avenue, Bartlet Street and ends at The Park. This weekend is packed with live music on the North Shore and a whole bunch of bands playing a wide variety of music genres, from classic rock to blues and soul, can be seen for free at rock clubs and restaurants throughout the region. The Guy Ford Band is playing the Red Rock Bistro on Friday night. This local group consists of a "five piece eclectic acoustic folk rock band featuring Guy Ford's unique guitar work and the incredible cello playing of Daniel Rowe with strong 3-4 part harmonies.
