Does Your Basement Conjure Images of a Haunted House?

I see a lot of basements---everything from elaborate fitness and media centers to basements that look like scenes from "Dungeons and Dragons." I also see buyers reactions when they walk into  basements. Some people are even "afraid" of basements--(their words, not mine)! It follows then, that the condition of the basement area of a home can make or break the sale of your home.

From home buyer's point of view the basement of a home is the most important area of a home. Home inspectors spend the majority of their time there. It makes sense, therefore, that your home sale will go more smoothly if you spend some time and effort in your basement before listing your Andover home for sale.

First, clean it out!  Get rid of EVERYTHING you’re not taking with you to your new home.  Sweep the floors, clear away the cobwebs, clean the shelves and windows, let in some fresh air and, make sure all the lights function.   A dark, dingy and smelly basement is a huge turn-off to potential buyers. And by all means, have the heating system serviced! The heating system is one of the major systems of a home–one that is often neglected by home owners and home sellers–yet one that is  critically important to home buyers.  A well maintained heating system goes a long way not only in making a sale but in keeping a sale together.

Want to sell your home more quickly and at the highest price possible? Make your basement sparkle!
