Each week Andover Patch will feature one athlete from Andover.
She is pictured above in soccer gear, but this junior also excels in basketball. She's got two state championships on her resume with two seasons to go before college.  Most recently, she wowed the Andover soccer crowd with a one goal and one assist performance as the Lady Warriors beat Lowell 4-2 on Wednesday.  Her soccer Warriors are undefeated this year and they improved to 13-0-3 with Wednesday's win. Andover High School’s junior wide receiver Will Heikkinen is this week’s Athlete of the Week having scored eight touchdowns in six games this season. Amazingly, Heikkinen has scored a touchdown in every single game this season including two in the season opener against North Andover and  two in a game against Haverhill three weeks ago. The junior is having a breakout season partially thanks to the Warriors’ new quarterback, C.J. Scarpa, who has been able to find the big wideout consistently. Against Gloucester on Friday, Mark Zavrl kicked a field goal that most high school kickers would never get the opportunity to take.  The 6' 1'' junior, also a tight end and linebacker, hit first half field goals from 28 and 45 yards to help Andover beat Gloucester 33-16. "Zavrl was tremendous, " said his coach E.J. Perry after the win that helped Andover pick up its second straight victory. Though she is pictured above in hockey attire, this week's Athlete of the Week is Meagan Keefe for her role on the Andover High School field hockey team, whose regular season starts on Sept. 12. The squad won 24 games in a row without losing once en route to a Division 1 state championship last year. They picked up their 25th straight win if you count yesterday's 2-0 preseason win over North Andover. The McDonald's High School All-American nominee has led the way for the powerhouse Lady Warriors in her senior season. In a win over previously unbeaten Barrington, she notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 steals. Last season she reached 1,000 points for her career in the title game win. Throughout her career, Gomez-Martinez has strived to improve herself and her game while motivating her teammates around her. She is this week's Andover Patch Athlete of the Week.
The uncontested leader of the Warriors, Joe Bramanti,  is midway through an extraordinary senior season with the Andover High basketball team. His leadership has ensured that the Warriors have gotten off to a 9-3 start with high aspirations. The guard is averaging 21 points per game and has been selected as a nominee to play in the McDonald's All-American game. Throughout his career, Bramanti has worked his way up to the top and continues to improve, becoming one of the most reliable players on the team.
