the marvelous satirical musical presented by Andover High School's Dram
a at the Collins Center for the Performing Arts for 4 side-splitting per
 formances.\nAbout the play:\nUrinetown: The Musical&nbsp\;is a satirical
comedy musical\, with music by Mark Hollmann\, lyrics by Hollmann and G
reg Kotis. It satirizes the legal system\,&nbsp\;capitalism\, social irr
 esponsibility\, populism\, bureaucracy\, corporate mismanagement\, and m
unicipal politics. The show also parodies musicals such as&nbsp\;The Cra
dle Will Rock&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;Les Mis&eacute\;rables\, and the Broadway
musical itself as a form. In reverse pantomime style\, the unconventiona
 l plotline shatters audience expectations of a somewhat&nbsp\;pleasant e
nding.\nUrinetown&nbsp\;debuted at the New York International Fringe Fes
tival\, and then was produced Off-Broadway at the American Theatre for A
 ctors\, from May 6\, 2001 to June 25\, 2001.&nbsp\;The musical then open
ed on Broadway at Henry Miller's Theatre\, running from September 20\, 2
 001 through January 18\, 2004\, after 25 previews and 965 performances.
Unfortunately\, the timing of the September 11th 2001 attacks closed Bro
adway entirely over the time of its first opening\, and reluctance of th
eatergoers to return to the shows quickly denied this remarkable work it
s well deserved acclaim. Broadway itself saw the greatness of this work\
, and&nbsp\;it was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won three.&nbsp\;The
acclaim continued as&nbsp\;the main characters of Bobby Strong and Hope
Cladwell were both included on New York Theatre Monthly's list of "The
100 Greatest Roles in Musical Theatre". This is a very funny show\, and
not to be missed.\n&nbsp\;\nAbout AHS Drama\nDrama is an important aspec
t of education at Andover High School. Drama productions provide a stage
for student actors\, enlist the expertise of student technicians and&nb
sp\;celebrate individual talents and collaborative efforts to create enl
ightened artists and scholars. For those students wishing to pursue an u
ndergraduate education in theatre&nbsp\;and the performing arts\, the Dr
ama Department strives to prepare these students by providing them with
the knowledge\, skills and opportunities necessary for establishing&nbsp
\;a life-long association with the theatre.&nbsp\;The objectives of the
Andover High School drama program continue to be to teach essential thea
tre skills and foster a love and appreciation for this art form. Faculty
and&nbsp\;students collaborate to select material that is of the best q
uality and which reflects Andover High School&rsquo\;s values as a commu
nity of learners. For further information visit&nbsp\;www.andoverdrama.co
