 or a lecture by Culinary Historian\, Joseph Carlin\, who will discuss th
 e history of the American cookbook.&nbsp\; In 1796&nbsp\; Amelia Simmons
 ' wrote American Cookery leading to a revolution in cookbook history. &n
 bsp\; This presentation will look at cookbooks throughout the ages and t
 he growth and development of cookbooks in America.&nbsp\;\nHistorian and
  lecturer\, Joseph Carlin appears regularly on the History Channel show 
 American Eats\, and has also made appearances on Graham Kerr&rsquo\;s TV
  series The Gathering Place and the Food TV series Bobby Rivers' Top 5.&
 nbsp\; His&nbsp\;first book\, Cocktails: A Global History was recently p
 ublished by Reaktion Books in 2012. For the past ten years Joe has been 
 an instructor on Food History at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts (
 CSCA) in Cambridge\, Massachusetts.&nbsp\; He also lectures regularly on
  the history of food at Boston University\, and the University of Massac
 husetts (Boston).&nbsp\;\nDuring The History of the Cookbook \, Joseph w
 ill will consider the question where would we be without the cookbook? W
 hether it is published by a renowned chef or compiled by a family member
  generations before your time\, the cookbook continues to preserve recip
 es that may otherwise be lost.&nbsp\; This evening lecture will take pla
 ce in the exhibit gallery at 7 p.m. of the Andover Historical Society wh
 ich hosts the weekly Andover Farmers&rsquo\; Market. Light refreshments
