Five things you should know in Andover today.

Here are five things you need to know on Friday, Oct. 4.

  • Rain: The gorgeous week comes to an end today, with rain expected throughout the day and possibly over the weekend.
  • Comedy: Lots of Laughs Comedy Lounge will have a fundraiser Friday night to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. Performers include Mike McDonald, Graig Murphy and Chris D.
  • Open House: The North Andover Fire Department will have an Open House on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be sidewalk CPR certification, "jaws of life" demonstration on a vehicle, the fire safety house, fire extinguisher training and tours of the vehicles and the station, all at the Central Fire Station 124 Main St.
  • Shutdown: Many federal agencies are closed due to the federal government shutdown.The Post Office and IRS are still open, so you can still send mail and pay your taxes.
  • Trade: Have something to buy or sell? Post it on Patch!
  • Help Out: Anton's Cleaners is collecting Coats for Kids later this month.
