Vispoli Criticizes Finegold Forcing Home Daycares into State Unions

Andover, MA—Today Alex Vispoli, Republican candidate for the State Senate in the Second Essex and Middlesex district, sharply criticized State Senator Barry Finegold for his anti-small business vote that would force hundreds of home based day care centers into a state union.

“Last month during the final days of session he voted to force home daycare centers into a state employee union if they accept one child on a state voucher.  This will result in higher daycare costs for parents,” said Vispoli.  “As the only candidate in the Republican Primary with business experience, I am shocked that Senator Finegold cares more about the Boston Labor unions than the small businesses of his district.”

When the bill goes into effect, workers at home-based daycare centers along with the providers themselves will automatically become state employees and unionized if the center cares for one child receiving a state voucher.  Large corporations such as KinderCare are exempt making this legislation solely aimed at small businesses.

Proponents claim it will help increase reimbursement rates for the home daycare centers and ensure quality care, but the state can easily revoke the licenses if there are problems at a center.  They are one of the most regulated businesses in the Commonwealth. There was also a direct amendment to raise the reimbursement rate.  It was rejected.  Finegold did not vote on the matter.

“If this legislation was truly about ensuring quality care then why exempt the large daycare centers.  This is a biased piece of legislation aimed at hurting people who run daycares out of their homes.  I am truly disappointed that our State Senator cares more about the big corporations than our local businesses,” said Vispoli.

Vispoli warns that parents are going to have to pay more for daycare due to this bill.  “This involuntary unionization is going to raise the cost of daycare.  Either these businesses will be forced to increase their prices or they will refuse to take children on vouchers leaving many parents with no option,” added Vispoli.

Vispoli was first elected to the Andover Board of Selectmen in 2004.  On the board, he has led initiatives including: consolidation of Andover’s IT organization and infrastructure, creation of the Andover Economic Development Council, I93 proposed interchange project, opening the Old Town Hall on Saturday mornings, creation of Andover’s Design Review Board, reduction in Town owned vehicles, and annual citizens mid – year review for major project updates, regionalization opportunities with surrounding towns – including North Andover shared DPW resource.

Vispoli was also elected the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) Board of Directors and the Massachusetts Selectmen’s Association (MSA) Board of Directors in 2011.  He is currently the District 2 Representative (Essex and Middlesex Counties) for the MSA.   He is a member of the Governor’s Local Government Advisory Commission.

Professionally, Vispoli has been in the information technology business for 25 years.  He currently holds the position of Vice President of Sales for a Boston-based technology company.  Most importantly, Vispoli is a devoted husband and father of 4 children.

This is just another case of the Democrats running amok. Forcing any small business into a union is absolutely socialism at its best. We must vote these guys out. We need to reduce the size of government, get government out of our lives, and reduce our taxes. We also need to stop collecting union dues at the taxpayer expense. Let them collect their own dues.

The President does NOT deserve a second term and the majority of America, minus the "Useful Idiots" of the left wing completely agree! http://weaselzippers.us/2012/09/04/poll-majority-of-americans-say-obama-does-not-deserve-a-second-term-country-in-worse-condition-since-he-took-office/
