The children's classic comes to Andover.

By Susan Currie.

On Friday, August 2nd - Sunday, August 4th the majestic J. Everett Collins Center at Andover High School will be filled with flight, music and that timeless message of staying young! In celebration of their 15th summer of delivering musical theatre to the MerrimackValley,Andover’s SummerTheater Ensemble (STE) is bringing the beloved classic Peter Pan back to the stage. Under the guidance of the award winning Artistic Director Susan Choquette, a cast of some thirty-two seasoned young adults from Stoneham to North Reading to Haverhill are busy putting the finishing touches on what is sure to be a fantastic production complete with a full professional orchestra and a flying cast.

In reflecting on the theater company’s rich history in the community Executive Director and Co-Producer Elly Seavey shared some insight as to how this year’s show was chosen... “We are so grateful to the Merrimack Valley community for embracing our theatrical productions each and every summer. Given our big anniversary this year, my co- producer Rita Casper and I really wanted to thank our patrons with a hallmark production. There isn’t a better show to fit that bill than the timeless classic, Peter Pan. Its message and its magic never grow old. The musical was warmly embraced when we produced the show back in 2006, so we’re bringing it back to town to celebrate our 15th year!” This year’s production is sure to delight both young and old with a number of the cast members actually flying above the audience. The Tony Award Winning special effects company Flying by Foy (straight from Las Vegas ) will be overseeing that aspect of the show. In addition, the production team consists of Thom Smoker serving as Musical Director, Maxie Holman as Choreographer, Scott Worthley as Techinical Director and Karen Spinale overseeing wardrobe as Costume Director.

Andover’s Summer Theater Ensemble is in its fifteenth season of providing comprehensive training in the performing arts for young people entering grades sixth through twelve. In the course of the program’s four weeks, participants are immersed in high caliber training in the performing arts, theater production and costume design. Past productions have included Anything Goes, Damn Yankees, The Wiz, Grease, Hairspray, Legally Blonde,West Side Story, Oliver, Guys and Dolls and The Sound of Music.
