Salafia, Vispoli Reelected to Selectmen, 4.6 Percent Voter Turnout Disappoints

Town Clerk Larry Murphy predicted about a 4 to 5 percent voter turnout by 6 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, March 25.

Andover 2013 Annual Town Election yesterday put two selectmen back on the board for another three years and placed a former state rep. on the school committee, as well as all of the other important seats that were filled among the governing bodies in the Town of Andover.

One thing the 2013 Annual Town Election didn't do is bring in the voters.

This year's annual Town Election drew merely 4.61 percent of the 22,962 registered voters in Andover; that a total of 1,054 individuals in town that want their voice to be heard on the local level.

Outside of the polling location at the Andover High School field house, several residents provided video testimonies to why they think it is important to vote in these annual town elections.

In the selectmen race, incumbents Alex Vispoli and Paul Salafia garnered the votes to win reelection to the Board of Selectmen, with Salafia earning 646 and Vispoli earning 843. Challenger Larry Bruce brought in 304 votes, or roughly 5.9 percent of the total, 1800 votes cast (each voter chose two).

Vispoli wanted to thank the voters and express his positivity toward progress in the future.

"I am very pleased to have the confidence of the voters to serve as their selectmen for another three year term," said Vispoli. "I look forward to working with Paul [Salafia] and the rest of the board, as we move forward to get a budget balanced for this Town Meeting, and tackle the large projects such as the Town Yard solutions."
