Andover Small Business Recognized on Inaugural Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll

ANDOVER, MA- ALKU is proud to announce their membership on the Inaugural Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll. This award recognizes Massachusetts businesses of all sizes that are strengthening communities through engagement of employee, financial and in-kind resources. The honorees were recognized at the Corporate Mentoring Summit at State Street on January 14, 2014. As one of the smallest businesses honored, ALKU was proud to be recognized next to large corporations such as Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, BNY Mellon, Comcast, Liberty Mutual, Natixis, Raytheon, State Street Corporation and TJX.

This year’s Corporate Mentoring Summit focused on how businesses are leading the movement to strengthen communities. ALKU was recognized for their employee volunteerism, financial contributions, in-kind support and board participation. Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) has been ALKU’s designated charity for 2 years. ALKU has puts a strong emphasis on educating their employees on the effects of mentoring and available mentoring opportunities in the Boston and Merrimack Valley areas. As a result there have been a few ALKU employees who have become mentors themselves. For example, Dave Tuell, a recruiter at ALKU, works with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay and has been a mentor to his 9 year old mentee for one year now.

ALKU has contributed close to $50,000 in donations during these 2 years, with most of these funds being collected through their participation in the Rodman Ride for Kids. Each year, employees pool together an ALKU riding team for the Ride and spend months fundraising for this event. Between in office “call-a-thons” and other events, every employee at ALKU is proud to fundraise for the cause. In 2014, ALKU will fundraise year round for MMP in an effort to double their fundraising goal. ALKU is also furthering their commitment to the mentoring movement by having CEO Mark Eldridge join the MMP Board of Directors. As a board member, Mark helps provide oversight of budget, resource planning and management of MMP activities.
