Photo of the Day: A Foundation on Tewksbury Street

Workers on Tewksbury Street do not have much in the way of shade working outside today.

A construction crew has been out on Tewksbury Street recently working on a house foundation. Hopefully, they're staying hydrated!

Just weeks ago, this was a beautiful patch of woods, filled wilth old oaks, tree frogs abd bird song. It is now just a hot, empty space. And there will surely be water problems, as the foundation is at the bottom of a step incline. They didn't leave a single tree. After the bulldozers left, I watched as a robin searched for her babies in the rubble. Another environmental tragedy for this previously peaceful, historic neighborhood.

Right on, Dianne. Was this the only "buildable" site they could find once ledge and wetlands were ruled out? How did it get a permit? Not familiar with the area, but looking at that huge stump I can imagine what was lost. See "pics & clips" posting for this morning for an image of a local jewel that needs this sort of undisturbed woodland to thrive.

I agree Dianne, this is a horrible house site. There are so many houses currently for sale in the Andover area, why build another house? And tear down all the trees?

Thank you both for your comments. They give me reason to believe that there are people in town who still care. What adds to this horrible tragedy is that it is directly across the street from a major wetland, filled with peepers each spring. Another neighbor tried to stop this lot from being destroyed but was unsuccessful. They have constructed a large retaining wall behind the foundation. I am not sure what effect this blockage will have on the wetland across the street or the rest of the neighborhood environment.
