Poet Tony Hoagland to Visit PA in April

The Department of English at Phillips Academy is pleased to present a reading by award-winning poet Tony Hoagland on Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m., in PA's Kemper Auditorium on 5 Chapel Avenue in Andover. This event is free and open to the public.

Hoagland is a professor of creative writing at the University of Houston and this year’s Isham Fellow. He is the author of four volumes of poetry, "Unincorporated Persons in the Late Honda Dynasty," "Sweet Ruin," "Donkey Gospel," and "What Narcissism Means to Me." He also has authored a collection of essays about poetry entitled "Real Sofistikashun."
 
Winner of the Poetry Foundation’s 2005 Mark Twain Award, given in recognition of a poet’s contribution to humor in American poetry, Hoagland also received the 2008 Jackson Poetry Prize, awarded by Poets & Writers. The magazine described Hoagland as “a poet of risk: he risks wild laughter in poems that are totally heartfelt, poems you want to read out loud…”
