16th Annual Andover Community Spelling Bee

Save the date! The 16th Annual Andover Community Spelling Bee will be held on Friday, April 11th, at 7:00 pm at Doherty Middle School. A fun-filled community event that has become a local tradition, the Bee draws a large and lively crowd of students, parents, teachers, administrators, town officials, and community groups for an evening of entertainment and friendly competition. Although some very good spelling does take place, the Andover Bee emphasizes fun, and the atmosphere is casual and family-friendly. Most of the teams arrive in costume, as do many of the audience members who show up to cheer on their favorite team. Team supporters are invited to strut their stuff in the freewheeling Spirit Parade that takes place just before the final round, and a Spirit Award is presented to the school team supported by the most enthusiastic fans.

The Bee's sponsor, the Andover Fund for Education, welcomes participation from all area schools and community groups as well as generous donations from sponsors. Admission is free.  All proceeds from the Bee support AFE grants to Andover teachers who propose new and creative classroom projects designed to reinforce and supplement the core curriculum.
