Home Organizing DIY: Kitchen Cabinets Repurposed as Bookshelves

When it comes to storage, an unconventional use is sometimes the best solution.

If you are in need of storage or bookshelves, consider using standard kitchen cabinets.

A client and I have been working to organize her craft space. I arrived one day to see two kitchen cabinets along a half-wall.  The cabinets have doors to help conceal the items being stored and match the aesthetic of the room.  The plan is to add a simple top to the piece to create a flat surface and use the cabinets for extra storage as well as a credenza.

The cabinets are a great depth for large books and binders while still remaining narrow.  And as I mentioned before, the wall we wanted to utilize is a half-wall so it was important to find an organizing solution that wasn't too tall.

What a great use of an item in an unconventional fashion!  This is a great way to recycle cabinets from an old kitchen - they can be painted to fit any décor. I am no contractor, but I would recommend mounting the cabinets to the wall to prevent them from tipping.

What other items in your home could be repurposed?
