The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras has announced the appointment of Michael Coelho as the new conductor of the Prelude String Ensemble, NMYO’s beginner string training program.
As the Prelude String Ensemble Conductor, Michael Coehlo brings an abundance of positive energy and outstanding musical skills to NMYO. “His love of teaching and performing is evident in all of his work,” says Gerald Dolan, NMYO’s Music Director. “He will be a welcome addition to our NMYO program and I know that students and parents will enjoy working with Michael.”
The Prelude Orchestra provides NMYO’s youngest musicians with the exciting opportunity to experience their first orchestral playing. Led by Michael Coehlo, “students will build solid technical skills while developing enhanced listening skills in a nurturing and supportive environment,” states Dolan.
Michael Coelho, a trained violist, is currently pursuing his master's degree in Music Education at the Boston Conservatory. He is a highly active musician in New England as both a freelancer and a teacher. As a teacher, Coelho maintains a private studio and taught in the UMass Lowell String Project and other outreach programs.
