Charles O Wettergreen Jr., Longtime Andover Teacher, 70

Charles O. Wettergreen Jr. passed away suddenly at his home in York ME on July 6 at the age of 70.

Chuck was born on January 6, 1943 and was raised in Melrose, the son of Ruth (Krueger) and Charles O. Wettergreen. After graduating from Melrose High School in 1961, he attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he joined Beta Kappa Phi fraternity and graduated in 1966 with his B.A. Degree. Chuck enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and he served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 as First Lieutenant of the 36th Transportation Battalion. The Army awarded him with The Bronze Star Medal on June 7, 1969 for meritorious service to his country. He received his Masters Degree in Education from Northeastern University in 1974.

Chuck was a beloved English teacher and respected educator at Andover High School for 36 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the UU Church in Reading and worked as their facilities manager for over 25 years, retiring from the church in 2007. Chuck was also a skilled painter and worked for many years painting homes inside and out, and only recently stepped off of his painting ladder in 2012. As his former students can surely attest, he loved music and would use songs and lyrics in his teachings. He was an avid gardener, an environmentalist and a lover of all animals, especially his cat Macy Gray.  Nothing topped his love for the Boston Red Sox and his passion for politics - he could talk about either for hours.
