Pike School Announces New Hires for 2014-2015 School Year

We are pleased to welcome the following faculty and staff to the Pike School community for the start of the 2014-2015 academic year:

Emeric Viani has accepted our offer to be our Lower/Middle School Music teacher beginning in September. Emeric is currently teaching at the Walsh Middle School in Framingham. He has also taught at the Genessee Community Charter School in Rochester. He earned his Master of Arts degree in music education and another masters in ethno musicology from the Eastman School of Music. He has directed several youth choirs as well as teaching private lessons. 

Michael Eatman has agreed to be our first Director of Community Life. Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Fordham University and his Masters of Art in teaching from Spring Arbor University. Currently, he is the director of the Office of Diversity and Community Life at the University School of Nashville. He has also taught at Spring Arbor University and Mount Pleasant Christian Academy. Michael is a certified diversity professional and a certified executive coach.

Maria del Carmen Burbano has accepted our offer to join the Upper School Science department in the fall. Maria earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University and her Masters of Science from Buffalo State University. After working as a science textbook editor, Maria taught at the American School of Quito in Ecuador. Maria has taught at the high school and middle school level and served as the area head for the Experimental Sciences Department in Quito. 

Charlene Voorhees has agreed to fill our position in Grade 3. Charlene graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar and earned her Master of Science degree in behavioralneuroscience from Oregon Health & Science University and her Master of Arts in teaching from Lewis and Clark College. Previously, she was a grade 3/4 teacher at Fayerweather Street School in Cambridge. Her passion for science and her experience teaching an anti-bias curriculum made her our top candidate in a very strong candidate pool. She has done an excellent job this year filling in for a maternity leave on our third-grade team.

Deb Hartigan will take over as School Nurse upon Jana Stone's retirement at the end of the school year. Deb has served as the Pike nurse for two days a week since February 2011. We are very fortunate that she has decided to make Pike her full-time home starting in the fall.
