Andover Man, Child Injured in NH Jet Ski Explosion

Both were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

A jetski exploded on Lake Winnipesauki Sunday afternoon with two Andover residents onboard, including an 8-year-old child, according to New Hampshire State Police.

At just before 2 p.m., a 911 caller alerted Marine Patrol about a vessel explosion on the lake in Moultonborough, N.H. According to a Marine Patrol statement, the jet ski exploded when the operator tried to start the engine, and both he and the child were ejected from the craft.

The victims have been identified as Steven Mitton, 56, and an 8-year-old girl, both from Andover. Mitton reportedly suffered a broken Pelvis, and the girl suffered a head laceration.

Marine Patrol, Moultonborough Police and Moultonborough Fire Department responded and emergency crews brought both people to Lakes Region Hospital. There is no word on their condition.

The accident is still under investigation, state police said.
