Clerical Mistake Sets Sex Offender Free

An error at Lawrence Superior Court will allow a level 3 sex offender to go free.

A mistake in filing at Lawrence Superior Court means a level 3 sex offender, convicted of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old man in Andover, will be released from prison, according to the Lowell Sun.

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court recently ruled that the administrative mistake keeps the Essex County District Attorney from being able to lock up level 3 sex offender David Gangi for life, a sentence which they believe is justified.

He was convicted in 1992 and 1998 for indecent assault and battery, in addition to the 2008 conviction stemming from the Andover incident. Read the full article at the Lowell Sun.
