Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm Blaze at Historic Wood Estate

Part of Route 28 shut down Monday night.

Andover Fire Department was battling a two-alarm blaze Monday night at a historic Wood Estate boat house on North Main Street. 

Shortly before 7 p.m., AFD responded to reports of a fire in the area of 276 North Main St. near Lowell Street. The area is part of the Andover Historic Preservation.

Firefighters reported a working fire in the two-and-a-half story unoccupied structure.

Andover Police cautioned motorists to “use caution on North Main near Shawsheen Square due to the Andover Fire Department activity at the Wood Estate.”

There were reported issues getting water to the fire. Mutual aid and a second alarm was requested for the blaze. The building was reportedly a total loss, according to a witness on scene.

Andover Police were forced to shut down the right lane on part of Route 28 south near the Lanam Club. Officers reported icy conditions on 28 due to the hydrant use.
