Fireworks Bust Results in Battery on State Troopers

Two troopers were injured after following up on a suspicious vehicle.

Two State Troopers working a detail Friday evening were injured while following up on a suspicious vehicle on Interstate 93.

The troopers were standing by state highway crews at around 9 p.m. Friday night, according to Andover Police lt Daniel G. Richard. 

The troopers discovered that the operator of a vehicle passing by was driving with a suspended license.

After stopping the vehicle, the troopers observed illegal fireworks. At that point, Richard said, the operator and the front-seat passenger instigated a physical altercation with the troopers.

Both troopers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Lawrence General Hospital.

The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to Middleton House of Correction and were set to be arraigned Monday morning.

Richard said police have not yet released the names of the two vehicle occupants. The two will face charges including but not limited to assault and battery on a police officer and several motor vehicle violations.
