Lawrence Youths Charged With Car Theft After Pursuit, Crash

The following information was supplied by Andover Police. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two Lawrence juveniles were charged in a suspected vehicle theft after a pursuit by three police departments and two accidents.

At just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Andover Police Officer Michael Shanahan attempted to pull over a 1994 Honda Accord -- which was stolen -- on River Road near I-93.

Police pursued the car, which struck another vehicle and kept going. The car went to I-93 and then to Hobson Road in Methuen, where it crashed into a tree.

Five young males then fled the vehicle in different directions of foot, according to police reports.

State Police joined Methuen Police and Andover Police in the search for the suspects. Eventually, Officer Shanahan apprehended two of the suspects, both age 14.

Police did not find the other three suspects.
