A taxi driver is in critical condition in a Boston hospital due to injuries suffered in a crash in Andover over the weekend.

Russell Bell, 54, of Nashua, N.H., was driving north on Interstate 93 in Andover Sunday at 12:28 a.m. when his car left the highway and rolled onto its side, according to Massachusetts State Police Trooper Todd Nolan.

A medical helicopter transported Bell from the scene to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Nolan said.

At the time of the crash, state police said Bell was operating a Hudson Taxi out of Nashua. A call to the phone number listed on the company's website went to a voicemail box with Bell's voice on it.
