A large brush fire reportedly consumed part of a train near Lowell Junction Road Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported at about 12:45 p.m.

Two train cars caught fire, according to National Emergency Alerts New England.

The train was a MBTA commuter rail work train carrying railroad ties, according to the Boston Street Railway Association. The MBTA said the Haverhill rail line that runs through the area was delayed for over an hour as crews fought the blaze.

Firefighters from Andover and surrounding communities like Wilmington descended on the scene.

The Red Cross said it dispatched a crew of volunteers to the scene to help firefighters stay hydrated.
