UPDATED: Two Alarm Fire on Atwood Lane

Firefighters contained a structure fire on Atwood Lane around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters from the West Station in Andover rushed over to the house fire on Atwood Lane after a call came in shortly before 4 pm. But the fire had gained so much of a headway, Fire Chief Michael Mansfield said, that the first responding firefighters faced a heavily involved fire.

Mansfield said that the entire rear of the structure has been damaged by the fire and that there is smoke and water damage throughout the entire house at 6 Atwood Lane.

Firefighters, including those from Andover, North Andover, Tewksbury and Lawrence, contained the fire at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

Fire officials do not know the cause of the fire at this time. Mansfield said the fire may have been accelerated by two, 20 pound propane tanks. He said there were no explosions in the fire.

Firefighters began fighting the blaze at 4:45 p.m. and Engine Company 3 from the West Station were the first on the scene.
