Andover will soon have to find a new assistant town manager.
The Dracut Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday night to appoint Andover Assistant Town Manager Steven Bucuzzo as that town's new town manager, The Lowell Sun announced on its Twitter feed.
"“Wow, that’s awesome news!" Bucuzzo said after the announcement. "I’m extremely honored and humbled to hear that I have been chosen as Dracut’s next Town Manager."
Current Dracut Town Manager Dennis Piendak, 65, announced more than a year ago that he will be retiring this fall, and selectmen in that community have been rigorously searching for a replacement.
Bucuzzo, who lives in Haverhill, has served as Andover's assistant town manager since June 2001. Before taking that position, he served as town administrator for Rockport and Budget and management assistant for Wellesley.
"It will be a great privilege to serve in Dracut," Bucuzzo said. "I now look forward to working with the Selectmen over the next few weeks in developing a mutually acceptable employment agreement and transition plan. I also need to learn a lot more about Dracut, its people, and its issues. I plan on being well prepared to roll up my sleeves and hit the ground running on day one without delay.”
