Lyons Calls for Middlesex District Attorney Resignation

The state representative says District Attorney Marian Ryan could have prevented Jared Remy from murdering his girlfriend.

In the wake of the Jared Remy being charged with the murder of Jennifer Martel, State Rep. Jim Lyons is calling on Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan to resign, NECN is reporting.

Lyons said Ryan could have prevented that the murder if Remy -- son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy -- had been put in prison after previous violent crime convictions.

Remy is accused of the murder but has not been convicted. His criminal record goes back 15 years, NECN also reports.

"We've got a violent criminal who has violent past of assaulting women, who was left to walk out on the street. I think it is just a total failure on the part of the District Attorney's Office," Lyons said.
