Special Town Meeting for Youth Center? [POLL]

Do you think it is worth holding a Special Town Meeting for the proposed youth center?

Andover Youth Services has developed a plan over years for a brand new youth center and even raised half of the $4 million cost of the facility. While proponents claim that it will raise the average tax bill by a maximum of $14 dollars annually, others have questioned whether it would be worth taking on the expense where the Bancroft School is coming and the Town Yard project is looming.

However, is it worth holding a Special Town Meeting to vote on this youth center? Tell us why you gave your answer in the comments!

I voted no for the very simple reason that enough is enough. We moved here over 30 years ago and back then a lady by the name of Gina R decided we needed some kind of youth center, as the bowling alley had closed, and she felt it would be a good thing for the kids to have their own place where parents would know where they were, etc. SO I got involved, we had a couple meetings, some fundraisers....and no youth center. Many times over the years since there have been others who felt this way and each time the plans are grander and bigger and more expensive and nothing happens. I have volunteered my time, given money, as have so many other people in this town and now, quite frankly, I am no longer interested. There have been plenty of options over the years that would have worked quite nicely, everyone would have been happy but for whatever reasons, 30+ years later, we still have not made any progress. We have all these expensive schools that are (or were and I doubt things have changed) underutilized after school and on weekends. We have a senior center that I think I heard could easily be enlarged and they could co-exist together - something that should have been done a long time ago. SO, no thank you, I will not support a special town meeting for yet another failed attempt at a youth center.

the youth foundation has tried for years to erect a building for not only the youth but the community as a whole to use. Land has been looked into, money raised, but it always comes down to that final vote when people forgot what is truly the issue and only talk about costs. Nothing is more important than our young people and helping them to become the best they can be and an asset not only to themselves but to the community. The time is now !
