SOUND OFF: Freshmen Barred From Varsity Sports?

What do you think of the proposal?

Under a new plan proposed by Andover High officials, freshmen students would be banned from playing varsity sports.

These new regulations would be put into place to prevent hazing.

The alleged incident occurred at the Hoop Mountain basketball camp held at Stonehill College in Easton over July 2011.

According to WHDH-TV, School officials now say they want to change the culture in the school's sports programs.

The changes were presented last week to the School Committee, which is expected to continue its discussion of the changes Friday, according to the Eagle Tribune.

The Tribune reported, while Andover High has anti-hazing and anti-bullying policies, the proposed policy change makes it clearer what the punishment for those offenses will be.

Athletes found responsible for initiating or failing to report hazing will be "removed from participation on their team for the duration of their time at Andover High School and will be subject to discipline up to and including expulsion," the Tribune reported.
