Andover Comes Back Versus Chelmsford to Win North Championship

Andover twice erased Chelmsford leads and went on to win the North Division 1 championship with a 6-3 victory.

It took a pair of comebacks, thanks to four runs in its final two at bats, Andover earned a 6-3 victory over Chelmsford to bring home the North Division 1 baseball championship.

Chelmsford jumped ahead, 1-0, in the top of the first on Sunday night at Lynn's Fraser Field, but in the bottom of the frame the local nine snagged a pair of their own runs and took the 2-1 edge.

But the Lions bounced back in the third to take a 3-2 edge, a lead that lasted until the fifth inning when an Andover sacrifice fly knotted things back up.

The sixth inning was the critical frame for Andover, as the team scored three runs to to the lead for good.

Thanks to the victory, Andover advanced to the state bracket, where they will take on South champion Norwood in the semifinal round. That game is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Lowell at LeLacheur Park.

The winner of that game will take on either Leominster or Cathedral in the state championship game on Saturday.
