Bove Race in its 20th year.

Andover Ski Team members came together with other skiers last Thursday at Ski Bradford to participate in the 20th annual Bove Memorial Ski Race.

Andover skiers Jessica Kearns, Molly Friedman, and Abby Silvio swept the top three spots in the girls senior division. In the Boys senior division, AHS ski team member Adam Risman came in second place.

The race is held annually at Ski Bradford in memory of a Haverhill skier Steven Bove who passed away tragically 20 years ago and his father Dick who passed away more recently.

The race is open to local middle school and high school students and is split into three divisions by grade. To register for the race students write essays about what the race means to them. Mrs. Bove picks the three best essays to award scholarships to participating students each year.

AHS ski coach Tom Busta, who helped facilitate the event, said that the Bove family was instrumental in establishing the Tri-State Ski Racing Association. He was told by Dick Bove before his passing to keep the tradition going.

Many students dress up in costumes  for the race and some ski the course backwards or on one ski. The fastest boy and  fastest girl each get their name on a plaque in the lodge at Ski Bradford in Haverhill.
