The construction of a new entrance is closer to completion after volunteers gathered in Ballardvale for a day of construction and trail improvement.

The first day of trail work this year for the Andover Trails Committee started with coffee and donuts in the MBTA parking lot in Ballardvale early Saturday morning. Dave Doub of the AVIS Land Management Committee coordinated the next phase in a project that will create a new entrance to the Vale Reservation, which lies between the Shawsheen River and Andover Street.

The new entrance necessitates a 450-foot boardwalk to be constructed. Roughly 300 feet have already been completed, but a 30-foot truss bridge needs to be constructed next. The group of volunteers and workers assembled the base of the truss bridge, leaving the top to be completed another day.
