The State Police Barracks in Andover covers section A-1 in the State Police's jurisdiction area. Section A-1 covers the communities of Dunstable, Dracut, Tyngsboro, Lowell, Methuen, Andover, Tewksbury, Wilmington, North Andover, Lawrence, Reading and North Reading. State police patrol highways and handle the policing needs of communities in the A-1 area. The barracks were bulit in 1920 and were later maned in 1928. In the earlier years, the state troopers at these barracks were charged with rural patrol.
