The Ambrose Friary is a residence for the five pastors that minister at Merrimack College. The school purchased the house in the mid-1980s for the Merrimack College vice president. Later, it became known as the "President's House" and was a venue for conferences and meetings. In 1996, the single family home on Elm Street became the residence of Merrimack College's Augustinian ministers. The Friary was named after St. Ambrose, a bishop in Milan Italy, during the fourth century. The friary is located across the from the north end of the Merrimack College campus and abuts the North Andover townline, a stones-throw away from Route 114.
