A 45-year-old Quincy woman is facing charges of running a prostitution operation out of her Andover massage parlor, which wasn't properly licensed.
When local officials talk about attracting business to Andover, they probably aren't talking about the kind Yu Tun Chen allegedly operated. It turns out that the Quincy woman arrested last week for running an unlicensed massage parlor that was allegedly a front for a prostitution operation had just moved her shop a couple towns over from Danvers to Andover. The Eagle Tribune reports that Chen, 45, of Quincy, was operating a massage parlor near the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers until about two months ago when it was shut down by Danvers police. Police Capt. Patrick Ambrose told the paper the department was investigating the business, which was run by Chen, for allegations of sexual services for a fee and had called in the state Department of…
Home improvement and paving scams often increase this time of year, say public safety officials, but there are some simple ways to protect yourself against being a victim.
If the sales pitch offering cheap home improvement work sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. The "extra asphalt" is a lie. That’s according to law enforcement and public safety officials, who say “paving scams” in particular can increase during the spring and summer seasons in Massachusetts. Local law enforcement and the Commonwealth Fusion Center, which recently released a public service announcement on paving scams, say roving scamsters pose as work crews and offer to pave driveways at discounted prices – often attributing the price reduction to surplus paving materials. The rouse then branches off in one of a few directions, all of them downhill. In some cases, the conman will claim some sort of mistake was made and the …

The woman was charged after an investigation by Andover Police.
Police say a woman was offering not only massages in Andover but also sexual acts for a fee. Yu Yun Chen, 45, of 133 Elmwood Ave., Quincy, was charged with operating an unlicenced massage parlor and sexual conduct for a fee Thursday. She was allegedly performing her services at 195 Andover St. Apt. 2, Andover. After investigation, police performed a sting and arrested Chen. And this may sound familiar. A couple weeks ago, two Chinese native women living in Queens, N.Y., were charged with operating unlicensed massage parlors in North Andover (one of them right on the Andover border on Andover Street) after police posed as clients and were propositioned and offered sexual acts for money during their massages. Those women are still pending …

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of a fire that spread through the roof of a Cedar Road home in Andover Wednesday afternoon.
Andover Fire Chief Michael Mansfield said that a fire in the attic of 16 Ceder Road on Wednesday was tough to catch at one point. However, nobody was injured in the two-alarm blaze. Mansfield said that two sons were home at the time, one of which heard a fire alarm and alerted the other to evacuate. Mansfield said without the fire alarms, this situation could have been much worse. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but Mansfield said it appeared to have started in the roof. The family, which includes a husband wife, and three sons, are working with family and friends to figure out living arrangements. The Red Cross also responded, offering shelter, food and clothing. The Red Cross is assisting a family after a fire tore through their basement Monday morning.
In the early morning on Monday, Andover Firefighters battled a structure fire that started in the basement of a Marland Street home. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the blaze but the family of six was displaced by the incident, as the home is now deemed uninhabitable. Shortly after 5 a.m. a one occupant of the home at 22 Marland St. had awoke to the smell of smoke, quickly alerting the rest of the family and calling the Fire Department. According to Fire Chief Michael Mansfield, the man, the eldest male in the home, had opened the basement door after smelling the smoke and was hit with super-heated air and smoke. Andover firefighters from Ballardvale and the central station quickly responded to the fire and had the blaze extinguished…
