Vispoli Files Bill Seeking Transparency in Campaign Finance

Selectman Alex Vispoli has filed a bill, with the help of Rep. Jim Lyons, that would prohibit cash donations to a state candidate's campaign, among other reforms to campaign finance.

This was submitted by Andover selectman Alex Vispoli. Alex Vispoli, an Andover Selectman announced that he has filed legislation to change state laws on campaign finance. His bill will require more transparency and allow voters to know who is paying for promotional literature. “Last year I received a ton of comments and support from people when I suggested my campaign finance reform plan. It was clear that people want more transparency when electing their officials, so I decided to file this important bill despite not winning the Senate seat,” said Vispoli. “I don’t just talk about issues. Adams Wins Republican Nomination by Fraction of a Percent

State Rep. Paul Adams grabbed just enough votes to beat Andover selectman Alex Vispoli in the race for the Republican nomination for the Second Essex and Middlesex senate district.

State Rep. Paul Adams will be challenging Sen. Barry Finegold for his seat in the state senate in November, according to unofficial election results. Adams won the Republican nomination on Thursday, beating challenger Andover selectman Alex Vispoli by less than 100 votes. Adams beat Vispoli, garnering 50.87 percent of the votes in the Second Essex and Middlesex district, which consists of Andover, Tewksbury, Dracut and Lawrence. In votes, Adams beat Vispoli with 2,648 votes to 2,557 votes. Finegold won the Democratic nomination unopposed. Vispoli did win his town, beating Adams 1,267 votes to 754 votes in Andover. GOP Senate Candidates Clash Over Experience, Beating Finegold

The two candidates running for the Second Essex and Middlesex Senate seat participated in a forum Thursday night in Andover.

State Rep. Paul Adams and Selectman Alex Vispoli, the two candidates fighting for the Republican nomination for the Second Essex and Middlesex Senate seat, discussed private sector job growth, healthcare and personal experience during the League of Women Voters Candidates Forum Thursday. Both Vispoli and Adams also traded barbs during the forum, with Adams criticizing Vispoli's record of voting Democrat and Vispoli calling out Adams' lack of private sector job experience and Adams' scandal with campaign finance. The two candidates are hoping to garner the votes during the state primary next Thursday in order to win the Republican nomination and face the incumbent, Sen.
