The newest Athletic Director of Andover High School is Don Doucette; he will leave his post as Athletic Director for Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School on August 20. Doucette served Hamilton-Wenham for seven years and is excited to take the reins at a Division I school. “I’m coming into a situation with one of the most successful programs around, and first and foremost you want to say you’re doing a terrific job here, keep doing what you’re doing,” Doucette said. “We’ve got some terrific coaches and teams here across the board,” he continued. Softball The Andover Girls Softball League’s Primary League is accepting late registrations for the summer season. The season runs through August 5 and features two games per week. Games are Monday – Thursday. Now is your last chance, because the late registration period ends tomorrow, Wednesday, June 22. Andover Patch will give each AHS varsity spring team a report card grade throughout the week. This is part three of a three part series. The Andover High School baseball volleyball and tennis teams all had strong runs in the MIAA playoffs. Let’s take a look at how they did on their report cards. Volleyball The Warriors volleyball squad started off the season on fire. They won their first four matches without losing a single game. They wound up winning six of their first seven. Then came the first of two separate three match losing streaks for Andover. The Warriors dropped consecutive matches to Chelmsford, Lawrence, and Haverhill in late April. In mid May, Andover hit another bump in the road losing to Chelmsford, Lawrence, and Haverhill …

Dominant pitching sealed the victory for Andover.
The Andover Junior Athletics battled the North Andover Junior Red Sox on Monday afternoon. A dominating, 97 pitch effort by Andover Junior Athletics starter Anarudh Muraj spelled defeat for the N.A. Junior Red Sox. The Junior A's came away with a 7-2 victory. Muraj pitched for strikes, racking up 10 strikeouts in five and a third innings. "He was a buzz saw," said North Andover's coach Chuck Trafton. North Andover's starter Jack Peterson held it even until the third inning when an errant throw to third kicked off a crooked inning for Andover. The Andover High School baseball and softball teams combined for a season record of 21-21. Let’s take a look at how they did on their report cards. Baseball Unfortunately for Dan Gram’s squad, the highlight of the season may have come in the very first game. Way back on April 7, the Warriors traveled to North Andover and took out the Scarlet Knights 11-8. Despite Andover being in Division 1 and North Andover being in Division 2, North Andover played the heavy favorite. Andover’s ace Jon Levinson did not have his best game but the Warriors managed to put enough runs on the board to win. That was North …

At the 66th New England Interscholastic Track and Field Outdoor Championships Meet, the Andover Golden Warriors made their presence felt. The meet was held at the D.G. Weaver Athletic Complex in Burlington, Vermont on Saturday. Girls Moira Cronin won her third consecutive high jump title at New Englands. She cleared 5-09 to bring home the gold. Cronin will be attending the University of Virginia. Jess Salley tied for tenth place in the high jump competition as she was able to clear 5-00. In the 200 meter dash, Eve Bishop finished in seventh place with a time of 25.95. The girls 4x400 meter relay squad took third place behind Bloomfield, Connecticut and Northampton, Massachusetts. The Andover girls tennis team has qualified for the MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. Andover will face Acton-Boxboro today at 3:30 with a shot at the finals on the line. The match is at Acton-Boxboro Regional High School. Andover came into the tournament as the 11th seed in the tournament. Acton-Boxboro is the number two seed. The Warriors come into the match with a 17-5 record. The Warriors beat O’Bryant in the first round 5-0. Andover then took on Chelmsford in the quarterfinal and came away with a 4-1 win. Both wins were upsets with regard to seeding. Acton-Boxboro beat Methuen 5-0 in the first round. The Colonials then took out Central Catholic 5-0 in the quarterfinal to advance to today’s semifinal match. The winner of today’s match …

The Andover boys tennis team has qualified for the MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. Andover will face Lexington on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Lexington. Lexington beat Westford Academy yesterday to advance into the semifinals. The Warriors are battle tested, but so is Lexington. Lexington will come into the match with a 21-1 record and the number one seed in the tournament. Andover has also had a solid year. The Warriors qualified as the number four seed in the tournament and have a record of 16-4 coming into the semifinal showdown. The girls lacrosse, boys tennis, and girls tennis teams have all qualified for their respective MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. All three of the Semifinal Showdowns will be on Wednesday. Girls Lacrosse The Andover girls are once again making a run deep into the MIAA playoffs. In the winter it was the basketball team, this spring it is the lacrosse team. With a convincing 18-11 win over Acton Boxboro on Saturday afternoon, the Warriors qualified for the MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. The Warriors could not handle the Indians in the MIAA Division 1 East First Round.
The boys lacrosse team had their season come to an end at the hands of the Billerica High School Indians yesterday afternoon in Billerica. Andover used an 8-5 win over Bridgewater-Raynham to advance to the first round of the MIAA Division 1 East Tournament. The 15th seeded Warriors, however, were no match for the second seeded Indians. Billerica jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The teams played even in the second period with two goals apiece setting the halftime score at 7-3 Billerica. Billerica put the game away in the third quarter. The Indians scored five goals, and Andover could not penetrate the Billerica defense whatsoever. Going into the fourth quarter it was 12-3 Indians.
